SAF+ Consortium honored at the Quebec Consulting Engineering Grand Prix prestigious event

Leaders in the field of engineering were rewarded for exemplary projects at the 20th edition of the Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois, an event presented on September 28, 2022, in Montreal by the l’Association des firmes de génie-conseil – Québec (AFG) (Association of Consulting Engineering Firms – Quebec).

Visionary Prize: BBA, Polytechnique Montréal and Consortium SAF+

The consulting engineering firm BBA, Polytechnique Montréal and SAF+ Consortium won the Visionary Prize, awarded to an engineering project with particular value in terms of innovation, audacity or proactivity.

The project concerns the installation and operation of a pilot plant intended to convert industrial carbon emissions into a new sustainable aviation fuel, whose GHG impact is 80% lower than that of conventional kerosene. This is the first project to capture and convert CO2 into a usable product to be carried out in Quebec, and which is a pioneer in North America.

Among a record number of 61 nominated projects, 14 projects were selected by an independent jury chaired by Luc Sirois, Chief Innovator of Quebec and Director General of the Quebec Innovation Council. The quality of the engineering, the innovations developed and the benefits for society in terms of sustainable development were taken into consideration in the evaluation of the nominated projects.

“The quality of the nominated projects and the innovation demonstrated by Quebec consulting engineering and its partners reflect the ability of our industry to act as Leaders in a world in transition, this year’s theme,” said Bernard Bigras, President and CEO of AFG.
