SAF+ IG announces the location of its first eSAF European plant

Paris, January 28th, Live from the Schneider Electric kiosk at the Paris Hyvolution international trade show, SAF+IG’s CEO, Pierre Gonthier announced today that the location of its first electro-sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) plant will be in the south of France. SAF+ is partnering with Schneider Electric, a leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation to develop an optimized industrial solution for this and future production sites.

Acting as an e-SAF project developer in the business of servicing the decarbonation of aviation markets in the transatlantic corridor, SAF+IG has secured up to 10 ha of industrial land with local authorities. This allows SAF+IG to begin the FEED studies required to construct this manufacturing facility. The plant will feature the proven technology of an international world leader in e-fuels technology and will produce approximately 75,000 tons of renewable synthetic hydrocarbons, consisting of mostly eSAF with some eNaphta. Future and current airline customers will be able to meet the RefuelEU eSAF mandates starting in 2030 and reduce their carbon footprint by up to 90% over current jet fuel.

SAF+IG uses green hydrogen made with renewable low-carbon electricity and combines it with CO2, transforming them into eSAF, a clean synthetic fuel with a carbon footprint 90% lower than traditional fuel. eSAF complies with the internationally recognized ASTM D7566, FT-SPK standards and can be blended with jet fuel for use in existing aircraft and infrastructure.

“Over the past five years, SAF+IG has been seeking to expand in France by developing an industry benchmark eSAF production facility for the air transport sector. We are continuing to finalize this vision by bringing together technological expertise focused on a single site in the south of France while delivering many jobs during construction and operation and boosting the local economy…” said Pierre Gonthier CEO of SAF+IG.

“Out of the gate this plant will address the needs of our first airline customers and will serve as a demo for our other clients seeking our expertise in site selection and development” concluded Mr. Gonthier.
